Day TRIP TO Tetouan-Chefchaoun

About Tetouan

Tetouan is a city in Morocco. It is situated on the Mediterranean Sea coast, about 60 km from Tangier. The city is the capital of Tétouan Province, and had a population of about 247,890 in 2016.

History: Tetouan was founded by Berber fishermen during the 14th century BC. The name comes from the Berber word “Tatawin” meaning “the place where one dwells”. Tetouan has been ruled by Romans and Muslims before it became part of Spanish Morocco in 1923, when it was given to France as a protectorate. In 1956 it became part of independent Morocco and in 2005 became the capital of Tétouan province

About CHEFCHAOUEN

Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is cooler than the coastal towns because of its altitude. The name Chefchaouen is of Tamazigh origin, derived from the word echaouen which means the horns, and the word Chef which means look at. Chefchaouen thus means “look at the horns”, reflecting the two mountain peaks overlooking the area. Nowadays, Chefchaouen is known as “the Blue Pearl” of Morocco, known for its traditional houses painted in blue and white.
